가슴이 큰 여성(왕가슴)이 가슴이 작은 여성(절벽)보다 비만이 될 확률이 더 높아 비만을 경계해야 하는 것으로 밝혀졌다.
이는 2002년 1월부터 2006년 6월까지 왜소유방(절벽) 및 거대유방(왕가슴)을 호소하며 엠디클리닉에 내원한 왜소유방(절벽) 461례와 거대유방(왕가슴) 104례를 대상으로 체질량 지수를 측정 비교한 결과 나타났다.
이 결과에 따르면 왜소유방(절벽)의 경우 20대 192례(41.6%), 30대 208례(45.1%), 40대 50례(10.9%), 50대 11례(2.4%)였고, 거대유방(왕가슴)의 경우 20대 45례(43.3%), 30대 25례(24%), 40대 24례(23.1%), 50대 10례(9.6%)였다.
평균 체지방지수는 왜소유방(절벽)은 18.88, 거대유방(왕가슴)은 22.19로 차이가 컸다.
왜소유방(절벽)에서는 저체중 205례(44.5%), 정상체중 248례(53.8%), 과체중 8례(1.7%)였으나, 거대유방(왕가슴)에서는 저체중 8례(7.7%), 정상체중 58례(55.8%), 과체중 38례(36.5%) 등으로 과체중 비율이 높았다.
거대유방(왕가슴)의 경우 20대는 저체중 5례(11.1%), 정상체중 32례(71.1%), 과체중 8례(17.8%), 30대에서는 저체중 3례(12%), 정상체중 14례(56%), 과체중 8례(32%)였으며, 40대는 저체중 0례, 정상체중 12례(50%), 과체중 12례(50%), 50대에서는 저체중 0례, 정상체중 0례, 과체중(100%)였다.
이상달 원장은 “왜소유방(절벽)증 여성에 비해 거대유방(왕가슴)증 여성의 체질량지수는 현저히 높았고 양 군 모두 연령이 증가할수록 체질량지수는 높아졌으나, 거대유방(왕가슴) 여성의 경우 그 정도가 심했다”며 “가슴이 큰 여성일수록 비만을 경계해야 한다”고 조언했다.
